David Simon‘s HBO miniseries Show Me a Hero has added four more actors.
LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Natalie Paul, Clarke Peters and Daniel Stern have boarded the six-hour entry, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Based on the nonfiction book by Lisa Belkin, Show Me a Hero is set in an America generations removed from the greatest civil rights struggles of the 1960s. It centers on Nick Wasicsko (Star Wars: Episode VII‘s Oscar Isaac), the young mayor of a midsize American city who is faced with a federal court order that says he must build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town.
Jackson will play Norma O’Neal, a stoic, hardworking home health aide who has struggled to raise a family in Yonkers’ worst projects, even as her own health fails her. Repped by Paradigm and Framework, she was nominated for a Tony Award for A Raisin in the Sun and will next recur on CBS’ Blue Bloods.
Paul (Smash) has been cast as Doreen Henderson, a woman born in Yonkers public housing but raised in the suburbs who finds herself drawn back to the projects, where her life spirals out of control. She is repped by Phoenix Artists.
Peters (The Divide, The Wire) joins as Robert Mayhawk, a consultant hired to help educate tenants bound for the townhouses about life in their new neighborhood. He is repped by U.K.’s Conway van Gelder Grant and Stone Manners Salners.
Stern (Manhattan, Home Alone) will portray Oscar Newman, a sometimes-abrasive urban planner who developed a unique plan for public housing in Yonkers, earning the enmity of the opponents. He is repped by Paradigm.
They join a large ensemble that also includes Catherine Keener, James Belushi, Terry Kinney, Michael Stahl-David, Winona Ryder, Alfred Molina and Jon Bernthal.
Simon and William F. Zorzi will pen the script and executive produce alongside Nina Noble, Gail Mutrux and Paul Haggis, who will direct via The Wire creator’s A Blown Deadline banner.
