Remember bat kid?  Meet train kid.

Jonathan Dockins, whose wish is to engineer a train through Donner Pass, will come true Friday.

“I have nothing really to say right now,” Jonathan, a boy of few words, told FOX40 Wednesday.

What Jonathan loves talking about, however, is trains. You’d never know it by looking at him, but he suffers from a severe heart defect that compromises and severely weakens his immune system.

“We’re never promised more than a day at a time,” Jonathan’s mother, Dee Dee Dockins, said. “And you see he is just running and having the best time of his life.”

That’s when the Make-A-Wish Foundation came into the picture, and asked what his biggest wish was.

“I just wanna drive a train sometimes,” he said, the day before he makes the trip over Donner Pass.

It’s a dream that took mom a little by surprise.

“I didn’t even know he knew what Donner Pass was,” Dockins said.

The Dockins family traveled far to do this – all the way from Jackson, Mo. Jonathan has seen trains going through Donner Pass, but only in videos.

“We said, ‘the government is going to let an 8-year-old do that?’ and the lady looked me and she said, ‘Make-A-Wish can make dreams come true, just give us a chance,’” Dockins said.

Now, Jonathan is all set to live out his dream – after a fun-filled day at the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento.

“He’s our inspiration because he does not feel well today and he just pushes through it,” Dockins told FOX40. “And the rest of us, if we get a headache, we’re down for the count. He doesn’t do that.”

Jonathan will leave from the Sacramento Amtrak station at 9:30 a.m. Friday.
