The end of the world is once again nigh, and this time all the naysayers appear to have it right: the Internet really is to blame for the downfall of civilization.
At least, that’s the suggestion of Memetic, a new three-issue horror series from writer James Tynion IV and artist Eryk Donovan, in which a weaponized Internet meme known as “Good Times Sloth” brings about the “utter annihilation of the human race… in 72 hours,” according to publisher Boom! Studios.

“James Tynion IV is one of the brightest new voices to emerge in recent years, and it’s been a flat-out joy to make a home for his original projects at Boom!,” editor-in-chief Matt Gagnon said in a statement, adding that the new series “show[s] us the destructive power of the internet, a terrifying look at how imagery and ideas can shape the behavior of our culture.”
Memetic was revealed as part of Boom!’s “15 Announcements Before Comic-Con” series, with earlier announcements including a new, as-yet-unnamed series from writer Mark Waid, three new series from writer Justin Jordan and the October publication of the fantasy graphic novel Spera: Ascension of the Starless.
Tynion and Donovan’s Memetic, which will be released in double-length 48-page installments, launches in October and will be available in comic book stores and digitally. Until then, stare into the eyes of the sloth above and try not to be too concerned if he starts to make you feel a little strange…
