Marking another change in the visual effects business, vet Marc Weigert has been named president of Deluxe’s VFX business, Method Studios, which is currently working on a slate of projects including Guardians of the Galaxy and The Maze Runner.
Prior to joining Method, Weigert was CEO of film production company Uncharted Territory, which he co-founded with Oscar-winning VFX pro Volker Engel in 1999. During this time, Weigert and Engel were VFX supervisors and co-producers on Roland Emmerich’s 2012. Their collaborations with Emmerich also included White House Down and Anonymous.
Going forward, Weigert will continue to maintain a stake in Uncharted Territory and remain involved in story development at the company, which will be run by Engel. Upcoming projects at Uncharted Territory include the VFX on Emmerich’s Independence Day sequel, ID Forever, for which Engel is expected to serve as VFX supervisor and co-producer. (Engel won an Oscar for his work on the original Independence Day.)

The current slate at Method includes VFX on the aforementioned Guardians of the Galaxy and The Maze Runner, as well as Jupiter Ascending (which was recently pushed back to a 2015 release) and The Giver. Divergent was among its recent projects.
Method maintains its largest facilities in Los Angeles and Vancouver, and through Deluxe it also has bases in cities including Chicago, London and Sydney.
Said Weigert in a statement: “I try to instill a sense of innovation into everything I do from both an artistic and technological standpoint. This ethos fits perfectly with Method’s goals, and I’m excited to work with such talented artists, producers and support crew, and help build on all they have achieved.”
