Ellen Page has one less gossip article floating around to worry about. E! has deleted a post the actress referenced in her much talked-about speech in which she came out as a gay woman.
In her remarks Friday, Page said it can be difficult to read tabloid articles about herself, adding she recently read one featuring a picture of her in sweatpants. The article asked “Why does this petite beauty insist upon dressing like a massive man?” The answer she gave in the speech? “Because I like to be comfortable.”
EXCLUSIVE: Ellen Page Comes Out as Gay
She did not say which outlet published the story, but the Huffington Post’s Kia Makarechi tweeted Saturday that the article in question was published Jan. 8 on Eonline.com. The story is no longer available. Makarechi also noted that E’s coverage of the speech did not mention Page’s reference to the story, which the actress used to exemplify the pressures placed on people to comply with certain norms.
A rep for E! told The Hollywood Reporter Sunday the post was deleted “weeks ago,” not after the speech.
“The January 8 story was in the Fashion Police ‘latest looks’ section, which like the show, takes a comedic approach to celebrity fashion. The content for this section is updated regularly and the story was removed weeks ago, not in response to Ellen’s speech,” the spokesperson said.
However, similarly branded Fashion Police stories published around the same time — and dating further back — are still on E!’s site, including one also published Jan. 8 making fun of Jessica Chastain‘s “gym hair.”
A version of the story archived by IMDb contained some of the text, which reads in part: “Not only did we write a whole post about Ellen Page dressing way too much like a street-sleeper, but we followed up with a piece begging her to undergo a Style 180 in 2014. And now, this. We’re starting to wonder if the former Juno star is actually homeless… Obviously that’s not the case, but then why does this petite beauty insist upon dressing like a massive man?”

Page delivered her speech Friday at Time to Thrive, a conference to promote the welfare of LGBT youth. The conference is being held at Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
“I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission,” Page said. “I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain.”
