GTA V *NEXT GEN* Impressions from the GameStop managers conference

Fellow Junior "The Shogun" had the chance to check it out at the GameStop managers conference.

Here are his (or her) impressions:

I saw 30 minutes of gameplay of this game yesterday.

Guys the changes are astounding. Really incredible stuff. Rockstar said their goal was to push PS4 / X1 like how they pushes PS3 and 360. The environment changes they've done are incredible.

This remaster is the real deal. New trailer should be going out soon.

Ok so a few responses.

1. I saw this at the GameStop managers conference in Anehiem. Rockstar gave a 45 minute closed doors presentation.

2. They showed us multiple locals. The city, underwater areas, country side etc.

3. Foliage has been completely reworked. Tree barks been redone, individual grass blades, wild flowers etc. This applies to underwater areas as well. Completely reworked coral reefs and underwater plants.

4. Draw distance now is INSANE. One example they showed us was the main city at night. They showed it on PS3 first amd showed us how all lighting at a distance was pre baked. In the remaster its all pre loaded in real time and is dynamic. You can see lights and traffic flow from massive distances.

5. Water rendering system has been completely redone. Rivers / Ocean / rain are gorgeous

6. No release date given. They simply said soon.

7. Animal texture work has been 100 % re done.

8. Anti Aliasing looked great with little to no jaggies. Looked 1080p to me. It was demoed on PS4.

9. Promised "new" content. One example was new songs / soundtrack / radio stations.

10. Best remaster Ive seen by far. I literally gasped at the differences.

Ok thanks for the questions I'll answer what I can.

1. Character models have been improved for sure.

2. Street detail is massively improved. Rain water now pools up on the road and honestly reminded me of Infamous Second Sons wet roads.

3. Animal and Wildlife count has been upped. They specifically mentioned how much they learned from Red Dead Remption and the original GTA5 and wanted to improve animal interactions even more.

4. Animals now sport actual fur. As in strands of hair that stick out from the actual body not just flat textures like in the original release.

5. I believe this has been in development since before GTA5s actual release as they said its been heavily worked on for over a year. Believe me you can tell. This is a complete remaster not just an uprezzed port. A huge chunk of staff have to be working on this.

Cars on the road appeared 2x more or so to me.

Cant comment on physics and such guys as much of what they showed was environmental without tons of action. They showed a lot of the beautiful vistas from a debug mode where they were free camera.

Looked 30 to me. But I believe its not locked down the FPS yet.

considering the visuals I'll be shocked if its 60 at launch but Im not confirming anything.

Thats really all Ive got on impressions guys sorry I don't have more.

Considering how much they showed I think a new trailer / release date are coming shortly but haven't had confirmation of that. It appeared to me though they were gearing up for a big reveal.

I'm really looking forward to this. Due to various things going on around the time GTA5 came out I only had a chance to play a few missions, so the game will be mostly new to me.

Sounds amazing. Very excited. Loved exploring the world of GTA V - and with visuals that good I'm excited to do it all over again.

It's starting to make sense why the new single player chapter is still MIA when compared to the DLC release timeframe of GTAIV if it's true that much of their staff has been on this project. I was super impressed with how the game's visuals looked on the lowly PS3 so I can't wait!

More cars definitely adds to believability and authenticity, but damn, I crashed into a lot of people at intersections in GTA V.

I hope we see something new from Rockstar themselves either next week or later this month via trailer/screenshots. I'm hyped up again

So glad I waited to play GTAV. I'll play it the proper way the first time through now.

Will your experience be so superior to those who loved the game the first time and can't wait to experience it again in a better version?

(Haha suckers! Glad I get to have a pure experience with this game for the first time on current gen and didn't have to experience this the first time on that cretin hardware!)

Rockstar said their goal was to push PS4 / X1 like how they pushes PS3 and 360.

I hope that doesn't mean it'll dip below 30 fps.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
1080p consistent thirty FPS with all those upgrades?

I'll be there day one on PS4 no doubt!

Those impressions make me wish I liked GTA. Sounds like a ton of work went into engine improvements. Should benefit Rockstar a lot for future games as well.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

In a word, yes. I'm glad that I saw this coming a mile year away.

I'm still most curious about new content.

The new graphics sound great but the graphics and art were already by far the best part of GTA V. The world of LS and Blaine County is already so far ahead of any other open world game in terms of how many hand-crafted based-on-real-LA unique buildings there were. The world art is probably already too underutilized and under-appreciated because whenever folks see those 'real life mapping threads' that show how almost every building in GTA V is unique and based off a real LA building, folks are shocked because the game doesn't have enough game-play to make you stop and appreciate the game world.

Which, while I am still excited for graphic improvements, what GTA V really needs is free roam content. The art and graphics are already pretty strong, frame rate aside. But it could certainly use random events, property missions, repeatable jobs, or even free roam repeatable mini-Heists.

I've beat the game 8 times in a year though... I barely ever even beat any other GTA once despite putting 100s of hours into their free roams because their missions were so repetitive and stories so cheesy. So, obviously V has already done something right. But it's definitely the thing I want the most for it. More repeatable Trevor Philips Industries missions, smuggling, gang warfare, territory ownership, safe house customization, etc. Anything.

In the meantime, I've had a year of fantastic memories playing the game a year ago, and now I get to experience them again while you've been waiting and biding your time. :p
