SACRAMENTO-
The numbers all add up: 343 firefighters from across California, the same number of firefighters who died while trying to save lives during the terrorist attacks on 9/11 in New York City.
They all climbed a combined 110 flights of stairs at the Renaissance Tower building in downtown Sacramento, the same number of stories in the World Trade Center towers.
What cannot be measured is the respect, and brotherhood of firefighters
“It’s an honor, a pretty moving experience,” Anthony Herd with Sacramento Metro Fire said.
Each firefighter wore a lanyard attached to a picture of a firefighter who lost their life on 9/11.
It took four trips to get to the 110 flights. On their final trip, the firefighter stopped on the roof at the Renaissance Tower and placed an armband with the name of a life lost on a make-shift memorial.
This is the fourth year firefighters have climb the stairs to honor the NYFD, and they don’t plan on stopping the tradition any time soon.
