Syfy‘s Sharknado sequel has a premiere date.
Sharknado 2: The Second One will make its grand premiere on Thursday, July 31, at 9 p.m. PT/ET, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. The follow-up comes a little more than one year after the original movie aired.
Blogger Perez Hilton will make a cameo in Sharknado 2, along with Biz Markie, Kelly Oxford and Salt-N-Pepa‘s Pepa (aka Sandra Denton).
Robert Klein and professional wrestler/Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle have also joined the TV movie, playing former New York City mayor and the FDNY fire chief, respectively.

Sharknado 2 centers on a freak weather system that turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a “sharknado” on the city’s population and its most iconic sites, with Fin and April the only ones able to save the city.
Ian Ziering and Tara Reid reprise their roles as Fin and April, while new castmembers include Vivica A. Fox and Mark McGrath. Previously announced cameos include Kelly Osbourne, Judd Hirsch, Andy Dick and Judah Friedlander.
Anthony C. Ferrante will also return to direct the sequel from a screenplay by Thunder Levin, who also penned the 2013 original telepic that made a splash on social media.
Production is already underway.
Syfy announced the Sharknado sequel last July, days after the initial installment dominated social media. The two-hour movie delivered 1.4 million total viewers to its premiere telecast, with an encore airing trumping that with 2.1 million viewers.
