SACRAMENTO-
There are two times a year when people who don’t normally go to church find themselves at mass: Easter and Christmas.
With Pope Francis leading the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics, people like Stephanie Johnson hope to see more people finding themselves inside these doors more than twice a year.
“I honestly believe [Pope Francis] is someone the normal people, the day to day people, will have a chance to understand and feel from him,” Johnson said.
Pope Francis is also attracting new people to the church. Carol Drummond joined 18 days after Pope Francis was elected.
“[The Catholic Church] accepted me where my other religion did not,” Drummond said Christmas Eve.
Pope Francis is already Time Magazine’s Person of the Year, but as a mover in an often rigid church – can he be a Pope for the ages?
