EMERYVILLE–

After weeks of the average price of gas steadily climbing, the price has finally started to dip down.

In the last week, gas prices have dropped $0.06. As of Tuesday, California’s average gas price is $4.18 per gallon, according to the AAA Northern California monthly gas survey.

The average in Northern California is a bit lower, at $4.15, but that is $0.17 more than it was one month ago.

“Even though today’s prices are higher than a month ago, all metro areas are experiencing a steady decline since last week, which is typical for this time of year, following refinery maintenance before the May 1 deadline to begin producing summer-blend fuel,” said Cynthia Harris, AAA Northern California spokesperson in a press release Tuesday.

Harris anticipated prices to keep dropping through the Memorial Day weekend.

The cheapest unleaded gas in California can be found in Marysville, at $4.00 a gallon. San Mateo has some of the most expensive, at $4.26 a gallon.

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.64, and is expected to keep dropping.
