Phillip Phillips is returning to American Idol.
The season-11 winner is hitting the Idol stage to perform his brand-new single, “Raging Fire,” which was released via iTunes on Monday.
“It’s a love song, but it’s also a little heavier, too,” Phillips told Billboard of the single off his impending sophomore album. “It’s got a little bit of an edgier side to it, and I really like that.” “Raging Fire” is the first track release since he made his post-Idol debut with The World From the Side of the Moon in 2012, with hits “Home” and “Gone, Gone, Gone.”
Still, he has mixed feelings about playing the single live during Thursday’s elimination episode.

“I like seeing all the people that I got to know…It’s cool to see all those faces,” he says. “But it’s also weird for me to get back up onstage and sing, because I hate live television, and I’m gonna be scared to death when I get up there. It’s always a little nerve-wracking.”
