SACRAMENTO –

A man was arrested Wednesday for murdering a Sacramento woman at a group home, police say.

Sacramento Police Department Spokesperson Doug Morse said the suspect was found on Winnett Way on Tuesday.

Police believe the victim was hit with a blunt object. They also believe 28-year-old Matthew Drake knew the victim.

The victim’s name is not being released until the next of kin are notified of the death.

Michele Howe lived with the victim and said she was sleeping in her own room when police woke her up after the murder took place on Tuesday.

“I had no idea, the men [who live in the house] have no idea [what happened]. And we were just very lucky that we stayed in our rooms. My door was locked,” Howe said.

Five people total live in the group home and some have a history of mental illness.
