$2.5 million dollars worth of pot, illegal guns and hundreds of thousands more in cash were all found at a home in El Dorado Hills, police say.

“This is, by far, the largest drug case that we have ever had in our history here in Citrus Heights,” Citrus Heights Police Chief Christopher Boyd said Wednesday.

This bust is more than just a massive amount of marijuana, guns and cash; it was an elaborate drug trafficking business that investigators say used the U.S. Post Office unknowingly as its drug dealers.

“Sealed boxes that were tightly wrapped with several layers of wrapping and were addressed to addresses out of state,”  Boyd said.

That’s what Citrus Heights Police say was found during the investigation. They believe the three dealers in this case shipped large quantities of pot over state lines, a business that had been operating unnoticed since at least September.

“You can tell by the quantity they had on site that this was a major operation,” Boyd said.

Citrus Heights caught wind of the drug trafficking business during a routine traffic stop, when an officer pulled Jeremy Zahn over. Zahn was a parolee, and what officers found in his car spurred the undercover operation.

“Patrol officer located evidence that indicated Zahn was involved in the sales of marijuana and possession of fire arms,” Boyd said.

That officer allowed Zahn to leave, and a special task force of officers followed him for a couple of weeks while they built their case, one that led them to the big drug bust and the arrest of Zahn and alleged partner Lindsey Loya.

“At this point, the case has been submitted to the District Attorney’s Office but the investigation is continuing,” Boyd said.
