Mayor Kevin Johnson will host the U.S. Mayors Conference Fall Leadership Conference Sunday into Monday at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom. More than 30 mayors from across the nation will attend the sharing and learning seminar.

Johnson, who also is the President of the US Conference of Mayors, gave FOX40 a preview of what some of the discussions will be.

One of the most anticipated panels will be the a reflection on the Ferguson tragedy. St. Louis mayor Francis Slay will lead the discussion, along with Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank and Benjamin Crump, who represents both Trayvon Martin’s family and Michael Brown’s family.

“It will be a very powerful panel for mayors to be able to exchange ideas, to learn from each other, but to really be proactive problem solvers, and that’s what mayors really try to do,” Johnson said. “We need to make sure that our cities reflect diversity, that we are protecting every citizen in the community, and we want to do everything we can to prevent another horrific situation like Ferguson happening  again.”

Johnson said he wants to shine the light onto Northern California’s innovative tech industry.

“We’re in a different era,” Johnson said. “The biggest taxi companies have no taxis. It’s Uber and Lyft. The biggest universities in the not-so-distant future, will not have campuses. The biggest bookstore doesn’t have bricks and mortar. It’s amazon, and thinking about the most popular music store, it’s Apple and iTunes. So it’s a different era. And that’s what cities 3.0 is all about.”

And before his colleagues leave Sacramento, he hopes they get a taste of Sacramento’s proud farm-to-fork movement.
