AUBURN-

Investigators believe a man tried to kidnap a 4-year-old boy in Auburn on Wednesday evening, and the Placer County Sheriff’s Office is looking for your help in identifying him.

The suspect, pictured left, reportedly tried to drag the child out of a store along Highway 49 around 5:30 p.m. The boy’s grandmother then yelled at the suspect, and he released the kid and ran. The man got into a small, dark colored pickup truck to drive off.

The truck is similar to an S-10 or Ford Ranger, possibly two-tone, black and dark blue, according to the release. It did not have a camper shell or storage boxes in the bed of the truck.

Witnesses lost sight of the truck when it drove out of the parking lot, and Placer County deputies could not find the truck or the suspect either after searching the area.

The photo on the left, taken at the Dollar Tree, is the only picture detectives currently have of this suspect. If you have any information regarding the crime or the suspect, please contact the Placer County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center immediately at (530) 866-5375.
