One of the ways Marvel Entertainment plans to celebrate its 75th anniversary this year is with a 1,200-page omnibus of some of the greatest stories published throughout the company’s history — and Marvel is asking fans to suggest which stories get included.
In a statement announcing the crowdsourcing effort, Marvel’s senior vp sales and marketing David Gabriel explained that “Marvel’s 75th anniversary belongs to our fans as much as it does to our creators and everyone behind the scenes.” He added that, from the very beginning, fans have been “an integral and vocal part of making Marvel the company it is today.”

Fans are invited to email their suggestions to marvel75@marvel.com — and the most popular stories will be selected for the eventual hardcover collection, Marvel 75th Anniversary Omnibus, to be released this November. The 75 most popular stories from reader recommendations also will be released as a digital exclusive collection.
This isn’t the first time Marvel has done something like this; in 2001, the publisher held a poll asking readers to vote for their favorite Marvel stories, with the results being used to create a four-volume series of collections titled 100 Greatest Marvels of All Time. At that time, Amazing Fantasy #15, the first appearance of Spider-Man, topped the poll, with the first appearance of the Fantastic Four and death of Phoenix (in Fantastic Four #1 and Uncanny X-Men #13,7 respectively) closely behind.
