Jay Leno, the outgoing Tonight Show host, and Jimmy Fallon, his successor, are sitting down for their first joint interview on Today.
The two will be interviewed by Matt Lauer on Monday, Jan. 27, during NBC’s morning show, the network announced Friday.
Characterized as a “sincere” and “engaging” conversation, Leno and Fallon will talk to Lauer about the Tonight Show legacy and how they’ve handled the transition.

Leno wraps up his decades-long tenure on the Tonight Show on Thursday, Feb. 6 with final guests Billy Crystal, who appeared on his first episode in 1992, and Garth Brooks. Fallon, who will appear on the Tonight Show as a guest on Monday, Feb. 3, kicks off his new show Monday, Feb. 17 with first guests Will Smith and U2.
Leno has begun making the interview rounds, telling CBS newsmagazine 60 Minutes that he “was blindsided” in 2004 when NBC first asked him to give up the Tonight Show for then-successor Conan O’Brien. His full 60 Minutes interview airs Sunday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. EST/PST.
Leno’s post-Tonight Show future remains unclear, though NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt has repeatedly said that he would like to keep Leno in the family after the comedian’s final episode. But sources have told THR that it’s highly unlikely that Leno will stay at NBC.
