CLMOOC Ad Hoc Hangout: Daniel Bassill on Community Building

I have decided in this week of play that I am going to ‘play’ with the idea of ad hoc Google Hangout.  What I mean by that is that I am going to interview folks connected with this week.  I am going to enter into the spirit of play here.  Perhaps even deciding right now to interview someone for five minutes if they are available.  The interview could be about anything at all, the rules can be any rules we want,  the board will be anything at all.  We might just show each other what we are eating for lunch or have a five minute book chat over a quote in a book.  Anybody game?

Below is my first one.  It went a long time, but Daniel had a lot to say and it was all worthwhile.  I have embedded this in a Vialogue for your commentary. Perhaps you could play the crowdsourcing game and help me develop a table of contents for the interview in the discussion area?  Or just comment.  Daniel has consistently contributed to so I think we need to play the reciprocation game.  Besides Daniel has a really cool backstory that you can only find out about by listening.

I encourage people interested in knowing more about the work I’ve been doing to visit the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC site at http://www.tutormentorexchange.net

On your first visit just browse the site in the same way you’d walk through a new shopping mall on your first visit. Open and close all the sections and links just to build your awareness of the vast range of information available. Once you’ve done this you can then come back latter and dig deeper into sections that interest you.

If one person in a community take this role, he or she can then lead others in the community into the site and build their own understanding and engagement. The ideas can be applied in any city and in many caused beyond working with youth.

Help for building and sustaining this web platform has come from different people in many countries. Hopefully that will grow in the future making this a shared resource.

As always, good on ya, Daniel. As my semi-famous rocknroller buddy once told me, “Keep On!” Of course I didn’t know Barack when he was Barry, so I don’t know how much water that namedrop holds.
