A car slammed into a tree in a Modesto home’s front yard, killing all three teens inside. Officers now say the car was reported stolen a few hours before the crash.

Thursday night, just before midnight, the 16-year-old girl driving the car hit the tree along Miller Avenue. The impact started a fire inside the car.

When officers arrived, they fought through the flames to remove the two 16-year-old boys also inside the car, and started lifesaving measures. The driver was pinned inside and had to be cut from the car.

All three people died from their injuries.

Before the crash, Modesto Police officers tried to pull over the car after it was reported stolen.

The short chase was called off because of how fast the driver was going in a residential area. Later, officers were alerted about the crash.

At this time, the accident is being investigated; officers are gathering witness statements and evidence from the front yard where the car crashed and the nearby streets.

Anyone with information or witnesses this crash is encouraged to contact Traffic Officer Reeves at 209-652-3296.
