George R.R. Martin really doesn’t like fan rumblings that he might not live long enough to complete his epic A Song of Ice and Fire series.
“I find that question pretty offensive. So f— you to those people,” Martin said in an interview with Swiss daily newspaper Tages-Anzeiger. He also flipped the bird.

Martin, 65, last published a novel in 2011 with A Dance of Dragons – and online, it’s common for fans to grouse about Martin’s pace of publishing or express concern over his health.

Martin currently is working on The Winds of Winter, the sixth installment of the series, which began with 1991’s A Game of Thrones. In March, Martin leaked a chapter of the book online, and in June his longtime editor Anne Groell hinted the series might need an eighth book to wrap up. (Martin has since downplayed that idea.)

Meanwhile, HBO’s Game of Thrones has a contingency plan for the TV series if it outpaces Martin’s final books. Its latest season explored significant scenes not yet laid out in the books.
