SACRAMENTO-

Orville Fleming remains at large eight days after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death inside their south Sacramento home.

“If he’s alive, we’re assuming he’s got the weapons on him that have not been accounted for,” Sacramento County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Lisa Bowman said.

Fleming, a recently-fired Cal Fire battalion chief, is said to still have access to Cal Fire facilities like private roads, lookout points and storage lockers.

Investigators are in contact with Fleming’s family including his estranged wife, who reportedly has received text messages from him asking for help.

The arrest warrant filed reveals the last moments of victim Sarah Douglas’ life.

Douglas’ sister, Stephanie, was on the phone with her when Fleming confronted and startled her. They fought, and Sarah told her sister that Fleming didn’t believe she was with her and their mother the night before.

Douglas screamed. That was the last she was heard from, Stephanie Douglas said.

A violent struggle left Douglas stabbed several times with a bed sheet wrapped around her neck, face down.
