SONORA-
At Sonora Elementary School, police say three grade-school students were busted for smoking pot in a bathroom.
“Shocked. To be in third grade and have their own pipe,” parent Linda Rodriguez said Tuesday.
Even more shocking the ages of the kids involved: two 8-year-olds and a 9-year-old child.
“We saw the three kids get taken out of the bathroom, but that is all we saw,” seventh grader Mary Montano, said.
Another student caught the three and immediately told administrators.
Sonora Police were called the school early Feb. 27 and the students were later released to their parents.
“It was bad because they are little kids and it shouldn’t happen,” seventh grader Mackenzie Morfoot said.
FOX40 reached out to the school district but they refused to comment.
While it is still unclear what disciplinary measures were taken, students say they have not seen the kids on campus since.
“I think they should be expelled, but I also think they should follow it further to where they found (the marijuana),” Rodriguez said.
Sonora Elementary School Principal Chris Boyles would not comment on the case but said the school follows California’s Education Code, which says students may be suspended or possibly expelled.
The case was forwarded to the Tuolumne County Probation Department.
