Is this more reason to give Glee a shortened final season?
The CW’s freshman finale of The Originals beat the finale of Glee in both total viewers and the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic on Tuesday. The Originals wrapped up its first season with 2.06 million viewers and a 0.9 rating at 8 p.m., while Glee limped to the finish line with series low 1.9 million and 0.6.
Glee’s low-rated finale didn’t help the launch of the Steve Carell-produced game show Riot, which drew just 1.3 million and 0.5, finishing last behind The CW’s Supernatural (2.1 million, 0.9). The CW actually finished fourth on the evening (2.1 million, 0.9) on the strong performances of its dramas, while Fox placed fifth (1.6 million, 0.6).

On a recent call with reporters, Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly addressed Glee‘s recent ratings woes and whether that would affect the final run. “The order currently is for 22, but we’re actually going to sit down with Ryan [Murphy] and really talk about how we’re going to end it and figure that out,” he said.
Agents of SHIELD‘s closer (5.2 million, 1.9) was even with last week, while The Goldbergs (4.1 million, 1.4) rose 8 percent on the heels of its second-season order for its season wrap-up. Recently canceled comedy Trophy Wife (2.8 million, 0.9) stayed even for its final Mother’s Day-themed installment, as did Celebrity Wife Swap (2.8 million, 0.9). ABC placed third on the evening in 18-49 with a 1.3 average.
CBS, meanwhile, dominated the night with a strong night of procedurals. The finales of NCIS (16.8 million, 2.6), NCIS: Los Angeles (14.9 million, 2.5) and Person of Interest (10.8 million, 1.9) all ticked up double digits from their previous episodes, though NCIS and Person of Interest were down more than 20 percent from last season’s finales. CBS won the night in both measures: 14.1 million viewers and 2.3 in primetime.
NBC finished right behind CBS on the evening with an average 8.1 million and 2.0. The Voice (10.8 million, 2.5) tied a low, while the one-hour season finale of About a Boy (6.3 million, 1.6) was relatively steady. Chicago Fire (7.1 million, 1.9) rose 12 percent from last season’s closer.
