TORONTO – NASA has released the most colourful deep-space image ever taken of our universe.
Astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope have assembled a stunning picture of our universe that contains about 10,000 galaxies going back in time to within a few hundred millions years of the Big Bang.
The composite image is called the Hubble Ultra Deep Field. Previous images, captured from 2003 to 2009, were studied in near-infrared light. Now, astronomers used ultraviolet light to produce the full range of colours from ultraviolet to near-infrared light.
The image is a composite of hundreds of exposures taken from 2003 to 2012 with two cameras aboard the space telescope — Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys and Wide Field Camera 3 and was created from 841 orbits of telescope viewing time.
