FX’s Tyrant is moving locations again. With two episodes remaining in its 10-episode order, the freshman drama is shifting production from Israel to Turkey for the final weeks of filming.
The move for the Middle Eastern drama, from Homeland‘s Gideon Raff and Howard Gordon, was expected after escalating violence in the nearby Gaza Strip put much of Tel Aviv TV production in question. Earlier Monday, Raff appeared at the Television Critics Association summer press tour where he declined to comment on the status of Tyrant — but did address his other Israel-set drama, USA’s Dig.

“We wanted to and chose to shoot in Jerusalem because of all the history there,” said Raff, noting the miniseries is already on a scheduled hiatus. “Hopefully everything will calm down and we’ll go back to working there and if not we’ll sort it out.”
This is not the first time Tyrant has moved. The pilot was filmed in Morocco before the Fox 21 production settled on Israel as a permanent home.
Ongoing civil war in neighboring Syria prompted similar issues for TV production in Israel in 2013. Homeland, which filmed parts of its first two seasons in the country, shifted plans for an Israel shoot to Morocco in September.
