LONDON – Antiques Roadshow, one of the BBC’s longest running shows, with more than 30 years on the air, will come to French TV in a local adaptation, the British public broadcaster revealed Tuesday.
Set to air on broadcaster France 2, the French version will be produced by BBC Worldwide Productions France.
The show features members of the public bringing antiques from their homes, attics or garages to a panel of experts who assess condition and collectibility and ultimately estimate the item’s value.

The deal was announced during this year’s BBC Worldwide Showcase in Liverpool, the world’s biggest TV program market organized by a single company, namely the commercial arm of the BBC.
The French version of Antiques Roadshow will be similar to the U.K. show and will feature a range of experts. Actress and director Charlotte de Turckheim will serve as host.
BBC Worldwide Productions France will travel across France to appraise antiques brought in by locals.
“There are not many TV programs running for over 30 years that can generate such interest with an international broadcaster. The simplicity of the show and the fact that it appeals to people of all ages and from all walks of life is what makes it so attractive to a major broadcaster like France 2. You never know what someone will unearth in a dusty attic, maybe a powder puff that was part of Marie Antoinette’s toilette or perhaps a piece of militaria belonging to Napoleon,” said Jean Louis Blot, director of BBC Worldwide Productions France.
Antiques Roadshow was first broadcast in 1979 on the BBC and continues to air on its flagship channel BBC One.
International versions have been made in the U.S., Belgium and Sweden.
The U.S. version on PBS has had 17 seasons, while the Swedish version on SVT first aired in 1989 and celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.
