Having enjoyed success with mobile games based on existing movie and game franchises in recent years, DC Entertainment’s latest mobile game pairs the Dark Knight and Fastest Man Alive in a race against time to save two cities — and “race,” in this case, is meant literally.
As the newly released trailer for Batman & The Flash: Hero Run demonstrates, the iOS and Android game allows the player to assume the roles of the two Justice League members as they run through Gotham City and Central City facing traditional villains the Joker and Gorilla Grodd. The latter character, in case you’re unfamiliar with him, being a psychic ape that first appeared in The Flash No. 106 in 1959.
Previous mobile games featuring DC Entertainment characters have been rooted in existing franchises, with Injustice: Gods Among Us, Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises all receiving their own apps, although 2012’s Justice League: Earth’s Final Defense was an original mobile property. This new game, developed by Ace Viral and published by Warner Bros. Interactive, follows Marvel’s Run Jump Smash! released earlier this year.
Of course, by bringing together Batman and the Flash, Hero Run promotes two of DC’s four TV shows this fall. Whether or not this means fans should expect a Green Arrow & John Constantine: Dimly-Lit Frown-Off game before too long, we can only hope.
Batman & The Flash: Hero Run is now available for Android and iOS devices.
