Tensions continued escalating among the competitors on the June 16 episode of The Bachelorette. As the saying goes, if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen — which took on a fairly literal meaning for one of Andi Dorfman‘s one-on-one dates.
This week, everyone was in Marseilles, France, where Andi selected Josh for the first one-on-one date. Former baseball player Josh told Andi that their boat date was “like a huge playoff game,” proving that his skills with a simile are unparalleled.

Josh assured her that he can be trusted, as he himself has been cheated on and knows how painful it is. Andi gave him the date rose, and the two both whispered to each other that they can’t stop smiling. Clearly, Josh is the guy to beat at the moment.
Next up, the group date meant that the guys had to strap on their suspenders and think inside the (invisible) box. They all got a mime lesson, but it didn’t matter, as each guy proved to be a terrible mime. Marquel did his best but accidentally made a young child cry, which is not the sign of a magical date. At least Marquel was enjoying himself, which was more than could be said for surly Nick.
Afterward, JJ took Andi on a surreptitious Ferris wheel ride, where they shared a kiss. JJ is definitely still a solid contender. Meanwhile, Cody and Patrick confronted Nick for being smug after his last date with Andi. Andi then heard from some of the guys about the rift, so she approached Nick about it. Nick nonchalantly brushed it off and then read Andi a poem, apparently taking a page out of Chris Siegfried‘s playbook from last season. Nick may have salved the wound for now, but Andi quickly seems to be losing interest in him.

Marquel heard from JJ that Andrew apparently referred to Marquel and eliminated contestant Ron as “blackies,” so Marquel confronted Andrew about it. Andrew — who had previously clashed with some of the guys after snagging another girl’s number while on the show — vehemently denied the accusation. Regardless, Marquel handled the situation admirably.
After nabbing a kiss in the previous episode, Brian earned a one-on-one. He and Andi watched an advance screening of upcoming culinary-centric film The Hundred-Foot Journey, and then they tasted sea urchins and tried their hand at cooking frog legs (clearly, the movie they just watched was not 1979’s The Muppet Movie, which makes viewers never, ever want to try frog legs again). Andi is bewildered that Brian — clearly no Gordon Ramsay — is so introverted in the kitchen, although Bri managed to still get the rose after confidently kissing Andi at a nearby bistro. Is it a pity rose? Perhaps.
Andi had seen enough of her hommes and canceled the cocktail party, much to the chagrin of several of the stragglers. Along with Josh, JJ and Brian, here are the five lucky rose recipients: Marcus, Nick, Chris, Dylan and Cody. That meant Andi had given the ax — or is it the guillotine? — to Patrick, unpopular Andrew and cookie-loving Marquel.
Viewers may never know what Andrew actually said to JJ about Marquel and Ron, but somehow, the rumor seemingly helped to eliminate both Marquel and Andrew. That’s the way the cookie crumbles.
