Fans are hungry for some Hunger Games.
The debut teaser for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part I garnered 7.5 million views on YouTube, according to technology firm Zefr, which monitors the numbers. The third installment of the series based on the books by Suzanne Collins and starring Jennifer Lawrence is shaping up to be the hit of the Thanksgiving/Christmas movie season. It arrives in theaters on Nov. 21.
Another holiday movie, Unbroken is also garnering attention. Unbroken trailer No. 1 attracted 5.5 million YouTube views in its debut week. The Angelina Jolie-directed flick about the heroic journey of Louis Zamperini–the Olympic runner who survived 47 days in a life raft in the Pacific and brutal torture in a Japanese POW camp–opens on Christmas Day. It is based on the bestselling book by writer Laura Hillenbrand.
Gone Girl trailer No. 2 recorded 2.6 million views in its debut week. The mystery starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris opens on Oct. 3. The film, which is directed by David Fincher, is based on the novel by Gillian Flynn.
A third holiday movie landed in fourth place. Exodus: Gods and Kings trailer No. 1 did 1.8 million views on YouTube. The retelling of the story of Moses and exodus of the Jews from Egypt is directed by Ridley Scott and has Christian Bale playing Moses (most famously played by Charlton Heston in the classic The Ten Commandments).
Only three of the ten most-viewed trailers for the week ending July 14 were summer movies: The Expendables at No. 5 with 1.3 million views, The Zero Theorem at No. 9 with 768,038 views and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at No. 10 with 614,359. All three movies open in August.
