Andrew Garfield is British and American — and he wants you to know it.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 star makes his Saturday Night Live hosting debut this weekend (he made a cameo in 2011 during Emma Stone‘s appearance) and the promos almost immediately address his dual citizenship, showcasing Garfield’s innate ability to switch from a British accent to an American one in a split second. Garfield also does an impressive intro for SNL‘s dog audience, because, why not.
STORY: Charlize Theron, Andy Samberg to Host ‘Saturday Night Live’
Bobby Moynihan has concerns that Garfield’s first-time hosting stint will be a letdown. “I hope you’re as good as when Emma Stone hosted,” Moynihan says. “Yeah… I know,” Garfield replies. “Because we named the stage after her,” Moynihan responds, pointing to a “plaque” with The Emma Stone Center for the Performing Arts emblazoned on it.
And because Garfield is known for his dramatic roles, Moynihan tasks the 30-year-old the near-impossible task of bringing the intro with even “more drama.” “That’s just not good direction,” Garfield says, before doing a Clint Eastwood impression, complete with low whisper. When Moynihan fails to make the appropriate web-slinging noises, that’s when things get hilariously awry.
If these promos are any indication of what’s to come on Saturday, SNL will be an adventure. Coldplay is the musical guest.
