In the all-important fundraising race for the Elk Grove's District 4 City Council seat, Steve Ly leads the pack, but not by much.

According to campaign finance documents filed with the Elk Grove City Clerk's office, as of October 18, Ly reports raising $88,358.

In second place for fundraising is Nancy Chaires, who reports having raised $86,582, of which $20,000 was a personal loan. Although Chaires lags Ly in non-loan fundraising, in the last few days Chaires has reported several large contributions which helped narrow the gap.

In a report filed yesterday, Chaires received $2,500 from Taylor Morrison. In her regular filing for the period between October 1 and 18, Chaires reported $5,000 from the United Food and Commercial Golden State Local 8 and $1,000 from the Democratic Party of Sacramento County.

While most of the recent big union and real estate money is breaking towards Chaires, Ly received $300 from the California Apartment Association PAC and $1,600 from Region Builders PAC. Both Chaires and Ly received $750 from Angelo G. Tsakopoulos

Ly also reports having spent $1,479 for the plants his campaign distributed to mostly female voters earlier this month.

The two other candidates in the race also filed reports for the same period. Daniel Jimenez received contributions of $390 while Nayyar Sarfaraz loaned his campaign $1,704.

Looks like both are keeping with what works best for themselves. Ly doesn't have to win on issues if he can get out the strong Myong political machine. Chaires can speak in cookie cutter feel good statements and is following the politics playbook by selling out to real estate, developers, and special interest.

Amazing how much it costs to run for a local office....
