USA Network‘s hacker drama has added two more to its cast.
Suburgatory alum Carly Chaikin and Her actress Portia Doubleday have boarded the one-hour drama project Mr. Robot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The Universal Cable Productions project centers on a young programmer, Elliot (24‘s Rami Malek), who suffers from an antisocial disorder and can only connect to people by hacking them.
Chaikin will play Marlene, the chain-smoking, striking hipster who also happens to be an expert at writing malicious software — specifically dangerous computer worms that take down entire networks. She is repped by Paradigm, Berwick & Kovacik and Stone Meyer. Chakin most recently starred as Dalia on ABC’s Suburgatory, which earned her a Critics’ Choice TV Award nomination. She is the latest Suburgatory alum to land new TV projects: Jeremy Sisto is in A&E’s The Returned U.S. remake, Rex Lee co-stars in ABC Family’s Young & Hungry and Chris Parnell next appears in NBC’s Bad Judge.
Doubleday has been cast as Angela, Elliot’s pragmatic old childhood friend and an account executive at the AllSafe Cyber Security firm. She is the one person who Elliot will open up to. The Paradigm-repped actress previously co-starred in the Carrie redo and the Oscar-winning Her, and recurred on ABC’s Mr. Sunshine with Matthew Perry.
Sam Esmail (Comet) will pen the script and executive produce alongside Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin (True Detective) and Chad Hamilton (Breakup at a Wedding).
Mr. Robot joins CIA drama Stanistan starring Jennifer Carpenter and Carlton Cuse‘s alien drama Colony as pilots that will vie for series orders.
