As far as the Internet is concerned, Katee Sackhoff is the ideal candidate to play Marvel super hero Captain Marvel if and when the character makes her movie debut, but the Battlestar Galactica actress has broken many a fan’s heart by admitting that she’s not met with Marvel Studios for that role (or any other) just yet.
Captain Marvel — in an earlier guise as “Ms. Marvel” — is rumored to make an appearance in Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, making Sackhoff’s earlier Twitter teases about a “super secret job” even more enticing to fans, despite her later clarification that it was not a Marvel project. Of course, the fact that she’s also given interviews saying that she could “have fun with” the role only complicate matters.
Now, finally, she’s come clean. “At this moment, I have not sat down with anybody from Marvel for any role specifically,” she told Vulture, adding that that “doesn’t necessarily mean that something with Marvel is completely off the table in the future” just to keep her options open. “Any time I can play a strong female lead that’s a role model, it’s a good day,” she said.
That secret project she’s been tweeting about, she explained, was “not necessarily a movie and not necessarily a super hero that you would think of,” suggesting that a small-screen role is in the cards, and not for Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, either. Forget Marvel, perhaps it’s the DC fanbase that should be wondering which hero Sackhoff would be perfect portraying. Maybe we can work out a way for Firehawk to show up in The Flash some time soon.
