SACRAMENTO—

Sacramento Police parked 2 mobile surveillance cameras near 10th Street in downtown, where two elderly Asian men were recently stabbed in their necks.

“Hearing that people were stabbed in the middle of the street, it’s a pretty scary thing,” a neighbor told FOX40.

“It’s cowardly. Who would want to hurt an old guy,” neighbor Sam Keegan said.

Sacramento Police say this man attacked two elderly Asian men near downtown.

Sacramento Police said the first victim, a 61-year-old man, was stabbed in the back of his neck while walking near 10th Street and U Street on August 18th. The second victim, police say, was a 75-year-old man who was stabbed in the back of the neck while walking near 10th Street and T Street on August 25th. Both crimes occurred near the same time of day. Both crimes occurred on Mondays.

Police say they can’t rule out ageism or racism as a motive for the violent attacks.

“We don’t have a specific motive yet. Those are the two similarities, being age and race. At this point we’re not ruling anything out,” Doug Morse with Sacramento Police, said.

These crimes occurred in a part of downtown that was historically considered Japantown. The first crime occurred less than a block from the Japanese American Cultural League. The second crime occurred less than a block from the Chinese Community Services Center.

“I wouldn’t put hate in there. It could be just a coincidence. It could be someone who’s just angry and it wouldn’t matter who got in their way,”  one neighbor told FOX40.

“It’s unnerving to know that someone is going around doing that. I hope they catch them. Whoever did this. Because he’s an idiot,” Keegan said.

The victims described their attacker as a 30- to 50-year-old black male with a medium build, standing between 5′ 7″ and 6′ tall. Sacramento Police have released a sketch of the suspect.
