ROSEVILLE-

PG&E will begin construction next month to replace a 12-inch natural gas transmission line with a larger 16-inch pipe in part of Roseville.

The four mile project will stretch from Baseline Road to the south and Blue Oaks Boulevard to the north, between Woodcreek Oaks Drive and Foothills Boulevard.

A PG&E spokesperson says replacing the aging existing line will make it safer for residents and increase natural gas capacity for growing demand.  An old 30-inch gas transmission line ruptured in San Bruno in 2010 devastating a residential neighborhood and killed 8 people.

The utility doesn’t want to risk that kind of outcome in Roseville.

Residents have been briefed through mailers and community meetings about the construction schedule which is likely to disrupt traffic on major roads as well as residential streets.  Much of the construction will be open trenching, although horizontal drilling will be used  in some wildlife areas.

Trenches will be covered at driveway locations for the most part at night and schedules may be adjusted if noise is an issue.  The project will go into November in phases, but most homeowners will only have to deal with tow to three weeks of construction.
