SACRAMENTO-

A new consultant report states the City of Sacramento could raise its parking rates and make millions in the process.

Currently, metered parking in Sacramento is $1.25 an hour, but could go as high as $3.00 an hour, according to the report obtained by The Sacramento Bee.

The report looked at modernizing the parking system in Sacramento. There is speculation the extra money could go toward the $255 million needed for the new entertainment and sports complex.

“The modernization of parking is independent of the arena,” Mayor Kevin Johnson said Monday.

The city is estimated to make $7 million with in seven years if rates are increased.
