Prius Batteries Stolen in Downtown SacramentoSACRAMENTO-

Police in Sacramento say thieves are taking Toyota Prius batteries right out of the cars in downtown Sacramento.

2010 and 2011 models are being targeted, according to officers.

Roseville Toyota says Prius batteries are very difficult to remove and each has a serial number that is easy to trace.

Because the batteries are so tough to remove, Sacramento Police say the thieves obviously have experience.

“There’s quite a bit of work and knowledge that must be had by the thief in order to steal them,” Sacramento Police Lieutenant Charles Husteb said. “Once they’re taken, we don’t know necessarily what they’re used for but I suspect that it’s resale.”

Prius batteries can be found online for anywhere between $1,000 to $2,500.
