SACRAMENTO-
Hundreds gathered at the State Capitol Sunday night to honor the lives of eight California law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty in 2013.
“Tonight we’ll get to honor in a special way eight officers that made the ultimate sacrifice last year and then they will forever more be enshrined here in the memorial,” said Sergeant Dan Nutley with Sacramento Police Department.
A new bronze plaque will soon be added to the California Peace Officers memorial Monument at 10th and Capitol Mall.
Those fallen officers to join the ranks are:
Officer Kevin Tonn of Galt Police Department.
Officer Michael Crain of Riverside Police Department
Detective Jeremiah MacKay of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office
Sergeant Loran Baker Jr. of Santa Cruz Police Department
Detective Elizabeth Butlet of Santa Cruz Police Department
Officer Gilbert Cortez of the California Corrections & Rahabilitation Department
Officer Jon Coutchie of Laguna Beach Police Department
Deputy Jeremy Meyst of Tulare County Sheriff’s Department
“You know we’re all officers no matter where we work, we all wear the uniform whether it’s a blue uniform, a tan uniform, or a green uniform, we’re all brothers and sisters on a variety of levels. So when we lose one of our own it hurts us all,” Nutley told FOX40. “The great thing about a night like tonight is we all get to share that pain and then learn to move on from it. It’s because of that mutual bond that all of law enforcement officers share.”
