Appearing on Monday’s edition of the show alongside wife Chirlane McCray, de Blasio presented the proclamation to Walters before the couple was interviewed by the show’s panelists.
Walters then received a standing ovation from her co-hosts and the audience as she motioned for them to sit down.
The View is planning a weeklong farewell to Walters, with all the past and present co-hosts set to stop by on May 15. As part of Walters’ retirement ceremonies, ABC News’ broadcast headquarters in New York will also be named the Barbara Walters Building.
