SYDNEY – The Walt Disney Co. will launch two new channels in Australia in April, including its newly minted movies channel, Disney Movies, and tween channel Disney XD. Both will be broadcast on the local Foxtel pay-TV platform.
They will join the two pay-TV channels the company already operates here, the Disney Channel and Disney Junior.
Foxtel Movies Disney is a new channel made up of classic Disney titles, contemporary live-action and animated features, as well as Disney-Pixar box office hits. Titles to air from April 10 include Monsters University, The Lion King, Toy Story 1, 2, and 3, Cars, Alice in Wonderland, Bambi, Cinderella, Mary Poppins, Brave, Oz the Great and Powerful, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

Established tween boy brand Disney XD will carry the exclusive premiere of Star Wars Rebels, the new animated series from Lucasfilm that takes place in the time between Star Wars Episode III and IV. An hour-long special and shorts will premiere on Disney XD slightly before the series launch in October.
At the channel’s official launch in April, Disney XD will feature Marvel animated series such as Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble and Hulk: The Agents of S.M.A.S.H., as well as original series such as Mighty Med, Lab Rats, Kickin’ It, Crash & Bernstein, Phineas and Ferb and Gravity Falls.
“Australians have a strong affinity and connection with Disney, and a passion for our stories and characters,” said John Cracknell, managing director of The Walt Disney Company Australia. “Disney is thrilled to join with Foxtel to bring Australian families the very best in family entertainment through two new channels — the magical storytelling of Disney’s classic films on Foxtel Movies Disney and the adventure and humour of Disney XD, featuring some of the world’s most iconic characters from Marvel and Star Wars.”
The channels will air in high definition. Foxtel Disney Movies will also be available on Foxtel’s steaming service, Foxtel Play, its on-demand channels and mobile service Foxtel Go. Disney XD will also be available to subscribers on Foxtel Go.
