After the success of The Lego Movie, Warner Bros. is moving full steam ahead on what it’s calling “the Lego brand’s cinema universe” and has set a release date for the next Lego film.
The animated ninja-themed adventure movie Ninjago, to be in 3D, will be released Sept. 23, 2016.
Charlie Bean, who worked on Disney XD’s Tron: Uprising, will make his feature directorial debut with Ninjago.
Lego Movie writer-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will be producing with Dan Lin and Roy Lee, who produced The Lego Movie.
Jill Wilfert, Seth Grahame-Smith, John Powers Middleton, James Packer and Steve Mnuchin are serving as executive producers
The Lego Movie opened Feb. 7 and has grossed $460 million worldwide ($254 million domestic). A sequel to that movie is also in the works.
