Travis Ishikawa Gets Key Hit for Giants, But Will He Go Back to Bench?

Travis IshikawaSan Francisco Giants left fielder Travis Ishikawa was right in the middle of the first run for the San Francisco Giants Sunday night in the National League Championship series.

With the Giants down 2 – 0 and a runner on first, Ishikawa doubled to center. Cardinal center fielder John Jay dived to catch the ball, but it bounced out of his glove. The hit sent Giants first baseman Brandon Belt, who had singled earlier, to third. He would later score on a Joaquin Arias single.

Ishikawa is now batting .600 in the series. He had two hits and one RBI in game one.

Despite Ishikawa’s strong play, there is talk he will be benched in favor of Michael Morse. Morse is the regular starting left fielder, but has been out with a left oblique injury. He made his first appearance for the Giants Sunday night since September 19 with a pinch hit single. Giants manager Bruce Bochy has been reluctant to play Morse saying he hasn’t seen enough live pitching because of his injury. But the Giants have been having trouble scoring runs in the post season and Morse is a hitter who can give the Giants some power. He had 16 home runs and 61 RBI’s in the regular season

The Cardinals went on to win game 2 by a score of 5 – 4 on a walk off home run from Kolten Wong. The series is tied at one game each.

You can watch Ishikawa’s double in the clip below from ESPN.
