The Vampire Diaries is introducing a new face.
The CW’s vampire drama has booked former Eureka star Colin Ferguson in a significant role on the upcoming sixth season.

First appearing in the season premiere, Ferguson will play Tripp, described as handsome, strong and disciplined. He is the head of a community militia and surrogate father to his young trainees who will do anything to protect his town.
He is also someone who will give Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) a run for her money, hinted executive producer Julie Plec on Twitter.
Ferguson teased the news himself on Twitter late Monday.
Hmmm…. Seem to have ‘tripped’ my way into a new role… Mystic Falls, hunh? This is gonna be fun 🙂

Classic! Everyone who knows the show is telling me I’m going to die. I think I packed too much…

Following the May finale, Plec told The Hollywood Reporter that she was approaching the new season as a restart.
“The way we look at it, season six is a beautiful and organic reset. The theme of the season is everybody gets to start over. That’s what we’re going to do,” she said at the time.
“We’re trying to take the show away from the massive genre extravaganza where each season we try to top each other with the bigger, bad, more exciting mythologies and boil it back down to the beginning, which is tension, suspense, romance, psychological horror, simple horror, vampires living in secret, people discovering their secret and coming after them,” Plec promised.
Season six will return Matt Davis to the core group and fan favorite Michael Malarkey as series regulars.
Ferguson is repped by UTA and Luber Roklin. He recently recurred on Haven. Vampire Diaries premieres Oct. 2 on The CW.
