Game of Thrones‘ is enjoying on of the most watched seasons in HBO history. Despite the smaller pool of a pay cable audience, the drama continues to grow, now hitting its fourth series high since its April return.
The 9 p.m. airing of Game of Thrones brought in 7.2 million viewers. That’s up nearly a million viewers from the previous week and up nearly 40,000 from the previous record set two weeks ago. Game of Thrones logged 8.5 million viewers for the night, meaning a whopping 85 percent of all viewers watched the first telecast.
This formidable lead-in continues to help comedies Silicon Valley (1.7 million) and Veep (1.1 million). A full hour later, Sunday newcomer Last Week Tonight With John Oliver continues to rake in more than 1 million viewers at 11 p.m.
Game of Thrones‘ 10-episode season is already winding down. With three episodes remaining, it takes off next Sunday for the Memorial Day weekend and returns on June 1.
