The View‘s goodbye to Barbara Walters was a boon to ratings. Friday’s flashy send-off to the TV veteran ranks as the fourth most-watched in the show’s history.
An average 5.23 million viewers tuned in to The View on May 16. That marks the best returns in years for a show that has seen some ratings fatigue against increased daytime competition from the similar The Talk.

2010 was the last time The View brought in anywhere near as many viewers, and that was the all-time high 6.6 million for President Obama‘s first visit to the show.
Among women 25-54, The View took a 1.6 rating — its best showing in a year and a half.
Walters’ entire final week on The View saw lifts, particularly with her penultimate outing on May 15. The super-sized table of every View panelist, past and present, took in 4.2 million viewers.
The farewell also extended into primetime. Walters’ old series, 20/20, aired a two-hour special to the journalist to the tune of 9.3 million viewers.
