NEW YORK — Just over a week ago, The Hollywood Reporter conducted our first Tonys Actress Roundtable with six 2014 Tony nominees — Tyne Daly (Mothers and Sons), Sutton Foster (Violet), LaTanya Richardson Jackson (A Raisin in the Sun), Idina Menzel (If/Then), Jessie Mueller (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) and Kelli O’Hara (The Bridges of Madison County) — and the conversation produced so much interesting material that it couldn’t all fit into the main video. Therefore, THR is now releasing an 11-minute bonus feature: the actresses’ discussion about what first brought them to New York and what they regard as their “big break” on Broadway.

Who first came to New York as an infant because her father was working as an understudy on Broadway? Who was from nearby Long Island and was brought to see shows as a toddler wearing pajamas? Who first came to town at the age of 17 for a callback, in front of Tommy Tune and Cy Coleman, after auditioning for a national tour of The Will Rogers Follies? Who went New York right after college and told a casting director at The Public Theatre that Joseph Papp had sent for her? Who crashed an audition for a show and ended up singing along as Marvin Hamlisch played the piano? And who auditioned for a role in Chicago and then flew herself to New York for a callback, which led to her Broadway debut?
For the answers to these questions, and a lot of other fun stuff, check out the video at the top of this post!
