Tom Hiddleston has signed on to star in Legendary’s King Kong origins story Skull Island, which will be directed by indie helmer Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
Legendary announced plans to tackle the film — based on an original script by MaxBorenstein — during Comic Con in July. Previous King Kong film incarnations have touched on the mysterious island, but Legendary sparked to a full exploration of the story that parallels its other monster-themed productions. Universal Pictures, which owns the rights to some King Kong films and their ancillary rights, will distribute the Skull Island on Nov. 4, 2016.
Hiddleston is best known for playing Thor’s nemesis and brother, Loki, in Marvel’s Thor, Thor: The Dark World and The Avengers but will now switch to the King Kong universe in an unspecified role. Legendary already enjoys a relationship with Hiddleston, as the British actor will co-star in its upcoming gothic horror film Crimson Peak from director Guillermo del Toro.
