Spike TV is continuing its push into scripted fare and is developing a drama about Donald Trump and Steve Wynn‘s battle for Atlantic City.
The male-skewing cabler has optioned Richard D. Bronson‘s best-selling book The War at the Shore and teamed with Kevin Spacey‘s Trigger Street Productions and Giant Pirates Entertainment to develop the property as an event series, the network announced Thursday.

The book chronicles the high-stakes battle between Trump and Wynn over the future of one of the country’s most popular vacation and gambling meccas. The script focuses on the 1995-2000 feud between the two outspoken businessmen and their multibillion-dollar battle for the future of the seaside resort community. Bronson, a businessman and developer in his own right, was Wynn’s point man in Atlantic City as they attempted to develop a new resort complex in the region. The book tells the inside story of the feud and offers a look at the world of casino development and the modern chapter in the history of America’s “Boardwalk Empire.”
Trigger Street’s Dana Brunetti (The Social Network, 50 Shades of Grey, House of Cards) will executive produce. Troy Searer (Obsessed) and Ross Jacobson (Big Sur) from Giant Pictures are also on board to EP. Spike exec vp original series Sharon Levy will oversee the project.
For Spike, War at the Shore marks the cabler’s latest effort back into original scripted fare. The network is teaming with Rob Reiner to develop Carl Hiaasen‘s journalism romp Basket Case as well as six other event series, including a King Tut historical drama.
