Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III is scheduled to land at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday, reports the Asian Journal.
Members of the Filipino American community are preparing to greet him.
Aquino will be at a summit with President Obama at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit.
Veterans hope Aquino will take up the issue of benefits for Filipino American vets from World War II.
“We urge Aquino to ask Obama about the implementation of his executive order of July last year for the promised immigration visas for thousands of sons and daughters of US Filipino World War II veterans who have been patiently waiting for more than 20 years and about the Equity Compensation VA benefits that were denied to 4,000 veterans and their widows,” said Franco Arcebal, 92, spokesman of the American Coalition for Filipino Veterans.
A start date for the new immigration policy has not yet been announced.
