SACRAMENTO –
UPDATE: Sachau was found safe, Sheriff’s deputies confirmed Wednesday morning.
Original story:
“He’s a member of this family. And we want him back.”
Scott Crow is one of many staff members at American River College concerned about their colleague, Michael Sachau, who has been missing for one full week. He is considered at-risk because he is typically very reliable.
“Mike works one-on-one with students in academic counseling. He also teaches classes in subjects like life and career planning,” Crow said.
Sachau was last heard from when he called in sick to work on July 29. Investigators and friends have checked his apartment on Fulton Avenue. According to the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, his wallet and cell phone were found inside. But there’s been no sign of Sachau.
“He seemed like someone who would always put himself before others,” said Hailey Cooley.
Students like Cooley, who have met with Sachau describe him as genuine, caring, a very helpful and organized counselor with a warm smile. Students tell FOX40 he has helped many undergrads transfer to the colleges of their dreams.
“He’s always meeting with athletes because he’s the athletic counselor. So he’s always meeting with people after hours just trying to help people out, get them to four years and everything. So it’s a shock,” Cooley said.
This picture, provided by the college, in this story is a couple years old, but people who know Sachau tell us it is represents him well. He wears a full beard. And he’s tall—6’2”—weighs about 260 pounds and has a tattoo on his left ankle.
“We want Mike back. And we want to let folks know, please help us,” said Crow.
